The verdict

Christina O began life in 1943 as the Canadian frigate HMCS Stormont and was turned into a yacht by Aristotle Onassis in the 1950s, hosting guests from Winston Churchill to Maria Callas. After a rebuild completed in 2001 (reported cost about $50 million), she charters from €700,000 a week plus expenses in the Mediterranean summer and €740,000 in the Caribbean and Bahamas winter. She sleeps 34 guests in 17 cabins and can host up to 157 at anchor, so she suits large family groups, weddings and events rather than a quiet cruise for two. She is also listed for sale, so confirm charter dates with a broker early.

Questions

How much does it cost to charter Christina O?
The base rate is €700,000 per week in the Mediterranean low season and €740,000 in the high season and in winter, plus expenses (Fraser, YachtCharterFleet). CharterIndex lists €700,000 for summer 2026. In 2021 she was offered from €630,000 a week (Boat International). Fuel, food, berthing, VAT and crew tips are charged on top; the typical amount for Christina O isn’t published.
Can you still charter Christina O?
Yes. She is listed for charter with published rates on Fraser, YachtCharterFleet and CharterIndex. She is also for sale (Boat International, Sep 2026), so a sale could change her charter calendar. Bookings go through a charter broker; charter.ly is a review site and does not take bookings.
Is Christina O for sale, and what is the asking price?
Yes. She was listed at €90,000,000 in March 2025 (BOOTE) and is now asking €52,000,000 with Morley Yachts and Fraser after a price cut (Boat International, Sep 2026). An asking price is not a sale price.
What is the history of the Christina O?
She was built by Canadian Vickers in Montreal as the frigate HMCS Stormont, launched in 1943, and escorted convoys and supported the Normandy landings in 1944 (Wikipedia)). Aristotle Onassis bought the surplus frigate for a reported $34,000 and spent $4 million turning her into the yacht Christina, named after his daughter and delivered in 1954; guests included Winston Churchill, John F. Kennedy, Marilyn Monroe and Maria Callas (Boat International, Yachts International). After Onassis died in 1975 his daughter gave the yacht to the Greek state in 1978, and she was left to decay. In 1998 a private investor group bought her and had her rebuilt at the Viktor Lenac yard in Rijeka, Croatia, completed in 2001 (Boat International).
How many guests can Christina O accommodate?
Thirty-four overnight guests in 17 cabins, with a crew of 40; for events at anchor she can host up to 157 guests (Fraser). Some listings give 36 overnight guests (YachtCharterFleet).
Where is Christina O now?
We don’t publish positions. In September 2026 she was at anchor off Port Canto during the Cannes Yachting Festival, ahead of the Monaco Yacht Show (Boat International). For her current position, check a public AIS tracker such as VesselFinder and match the length (99 m) and build year (1943).
