The verdict

Breakthrough is a 118.8-metre Feadship delivered in 2025 and, according to her builder, the world’s first superyacht with hydrogen fuel cells (Feadship). At €3,500,000 a week before expenses she tops both the YachtCharterFleet and Boat International lists of the most expensive charter yachts in 2026. She takes 12 guests with a crew of 46, and the published rate is the same for the Caribbean winter and the Mediterranean summer (Edmiston). She suits groups who want a 2025-built gigayacht that can run on hydrogen alone at anchor for about two weeks (Boat International).

Questions

How much does it cost to charter Breakthrough?
The base rate is €3,500,000 per week plus expenses, the same in summer and winter (YachtCharterFleet). Edmiston, her central agent, quotes “from €3,500,000” for the Caribbean in winter 2026–27 and the Mediterranean in summer 2027 (Edmiston), and CharterIndex gives the same figure for summer 2026. Expenses such as fuel, food, berthing, VAT and crew tips are charged on top; the typical amount for Breakthrough isn’t published.
Can you charter Breakthrough?
Yes. She joined the charter market after her sale in September 2025 and is chartered exclusively through Edmiston (Boat International, 12 Sep 2025). She is listed with published rates on YachtCharterFleet and Edmiston. Bookings go through a charter broker; charter.ly is a review site and does not take bookings.
Is Breakthrough the most expensive yacht to charter?
Among yachts with a published rate, yes. She is first in the YachtCharterFleet list of the most expensive charter yachts, updated 17 March 2026 (YachtCharterFleet), and first in Boat International’s list of 26 June 2026, ahead of Kismet and Renaissance at €3,000,000 a week (Boat International).
How many guests can Breakthrough accommodate?
Twelve charter guests in 15 cabins, with a crew of 46 (YachtCharterFleet, Edmiston). Launch reports gave up to 30 guests (YachtCharterFleet, Nov 2024); Boat International’s spec table lists 30 for private use and 12 for commercial (charter) use (Boat International).
What makes Breakthrough hydrogen-powered?
She carries 16 PowerCell fuel-cell systems producing 3 MW (Feadship); Boat International puts the output at 3.2 MW, fed by about four tonnes of liquid hydrogen stored at −253 °C. On hydrogen alone she can cover about 350 nautical miles at 10 knots or stay about 14 days at anchor with hotel loads; on diesel power alone her range is 6,500 nautical miles or more (Boat International). Feadship calls her the world’s first hydrogen fuel-cell superyacht.
Where is Breakthrough yacht now?
We don’t publish positions. Check a public AIS tracker such as VesselFinder, and match the length (118.8 m) and build year (2025), since other vessels share the name. Her charter pattern is the Mediterranean in summer and the Caribbean in winter (Edmiston). A video uploaded on 19 August 2026 shows her at Cala di Volpe, Sardinia (YouTube).
